When trying to improve our diet, either for weight loss or to just generally be a bit more healthy, cutting down on carb-filled starchy food products can be a great place to start.

Carbohydrates are the part of our diet that gives us that ‘full’ feeling and as such many people find carbs to form the ultimate comfort food. So how can we cut down on these without feeling deprived of our favourite comforting dishes?

The key is to find healthier alternatives to things such as pasta and potatoes. You can buy low-carb products but these can be quiet expensive and not always as tasty as you may expect. Instead you may want to try these easy alternatives that are simple to make and tasty too.

Roasted cauliflower- slice flat sections of cauliflower and put on baking paper, drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle on your favourite spices such as smoked paprika or curry powder then roast for 20 mins on a medium het turning once.

Roasted radishes – many people only use radishes in a salad however lightly roasted with a little bit of garlic these can be a great potato alternative.

Parsnip chips – cut thin like fries, parsnips can make a delicious part of a meal and are much lower in carbs than potatoes too!
